Cloverbelt Credit Union was originally organized by local farmers who found it difficult to obtain financial support elsewhere. Needing an outlet through which they could borrow money as well as a savings headquarters, the credit union was born. CCU's Articles of Incorporation were signed on October 23, 1935, and we officially opened for business on January 2, 1936.

 

 

By the end of 1936, assets totaled $454.00 and the credit union had just 38 members. Four of those original 38 are still active CCU members!

 

 

Things have changed dramatically in the years since CCU first opened for business. Up until 1939, CCU served primarily farmers. But in that year, membership grew with the Cloverbelt Cooperative's entrance in the fuel oil business, which meant its city customers could join too. Today, anyone who lives or works in Marathon, Lincoln, Wood, Portage, Clark, Langlade, Shawano and Taylor County is eligible to join CCU, and membership has grown to more than 16,000 people.

 

 

Assets, loans and savings have also greatly increased over the years. Assets currently total over $150 million and growth continues to be strong and steady.

 

 

To serve its members, CCU currently employs a friendly staff of over 50 men and women. The credit union also offers three convenient locations - 110 McIndoe Street in downtown Wausau; 5906 Business 51 in Weston; and 625 S. 24th Avenue on Wausau's west side. Our mortgage center, located at 813 N. 2nd Street in Wausau, is just across the street from our main office downtown.
